That pattern is gorgues! I have a pair going in Lorna's Laces Sheperd Sock in Envy. As soon as finals are over I'm going to finish them. Have them!
The pattern and the yarn are both beautiful! I'm putting this on my (incredibly long) to-knit list!
I've made those for my sister... they turned out so nicely that i almost kept them (hey, our birthdays were close, so it was ALMOST justifiable ;D). I would've made myself a pair, except, by the time i was finished, i was dreaming about leaves and y.o.s -- your sock pal will love them though, and should be thankful!
