need some help please.

Hi,

I am in search of cotton or cotten blend sock yarn. I have never knit
cotton before. Does any one have yarn recommendations? I'm looking for
solid colors... I've looked at a few (like Panda Cotton & Meilenweit
Cotton, just to name a couple) but am overwhelmed by the choices and
various blends. (I've looked at Grumperina's non-wooly list too...)

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

:)

Socotta tends to be splitty and the fabric gets stretched out quickly on the foot. I would reccomend Panda Cotton, Fixation or Elann Esprit. The last two are better for a slightly thicker, cushier sock with less detail. Panda Cotton is good for showing up some of the more common patterns for thin socks like Jaywalker, Monkey, Broadripple, etc.

I have some Meilenweit that I started knitting with and it seemed nice. It split a lot when i was trying to crochet socks with it, but it was fine when knitting. i didn't finish the socks, it didn't work with the patter, but it knit up nicely.

Depending on where you are ordering from - I can also recommend JaWolls cotton. It has a high twist and a good cotton, wool, nylon mixture.

Of course, there is bamboo...

I just finished some cascade fixations and loved working with it. I have heard others don't love it though.

Meilenweit is fabulous! I made my sockpal socks out of it last year. It's beautiful to work with and wear!!

Ya Fixation or Elann Esprit can be thick and hot, I have always wanted to try Katia Mississipi 3, http://www.yarns-and.com/fabrics/Katia/KATmississippi3.htm

A true fingering weight yarn and looks really promising.

If you're open to blends try Tofutsies from South West Trading Company..true wool is the the main ingrediant but there's also soy silk and chitin...I'm in love with this yarn right now...

The panda cotton is very soft, I recommend it.
