Handspun

Nothing too terribly exciting happening around Chez DK's.

I spun up one regular size spindle of wool. I will dye it when I have enough to knit a sweater. I think I need to bite the bullet and just get me a jumbo spool and flyer, so I can get twice the amount of yardage.

Worsted weight
12:1 ratio
8 wpi
108 yds.

I am very pleased how it turned out considering I hadn't spun in over a year.

I am knitting a scarf, but it will be awhile before it is completed because it is on size 3 needles, and all garter stitch all the time! :) It is a cool scarf though. I believe the name of it is "Serpentine Scarf". It will be a Christmas gift next year....heh, yes I am already starting.

And I will leave you all with another Piggle fix! Because seriously, doesn't she make you want to faint away dead from the cuteness? Yeah, me too! :)

Take care and God Bless!

Success! and Baby WIPs

Finally, one of my cats voluntarily settled upon one of the Kitty Pi beds I've made. I only had to put him in and pet him for a minute or two. See Teddy. See Teddy sleep. Sleep, Teddy, sleep!
Maybe he'll get the hang of it, but I doubt it since he purposely mushed down the edge. What should I expect from a cat who lives life on his own terms, who prefers to drink from and play in the toilet rather than his nice fresh ceramic water dish. Nothing worse than the feeling when he climbs on me with wet paws and expects petting. So I proclaim this a success, though not worthy of Wendy's Kitty Bed gallery. Kitty Pi pattern link

Baby due dates are drawing near and I only have one baby suitably knitted for. Try and end that sentence without a preposition. It's beyond my grasp. I do have some baby WIPs in progress.
A side to side sweater from the Opal pattern. Trekking & Kroy. Supposed to be unisex. It may be a little too ambitious to finish at this point.

A garter stitch blanket (unpictured) ala Elizabeth Zimmermann from The Opinionated Knitter. This I may frog even though it's turning out to be a fairly quick knit, and I have 50% done, not counting seaming, of which there is a lot, and I picked the colors and yarn myself. I'm mixing primaries and black in a switch every other row pattern. I don't like the black or the other colors for that matter. I think I will only like this pattern in solids, tweeds, and the like or slowly changing colors. Is this an excuse to order some yarn I have been eyeing at Little Knits? NO! NOT until you knit enough yarn to be able to watch a DVD or at least find somewhere else to put yarn. Yes, I should know better than that. Shame on me. Ravelry link to pattern page & projects

A 100% wool, non-superwash blanket which I'll probably frog because who's going to want to wash it? It is my favorite of this whole bunch, though. No pattern.
A couple of bibs--these are actually complete, but they're for the baby whose knitting is already complete and a friend of his. Modern Cabled Baby Bib by Gibsongirl. On Ravelry.

Such is my progress toward the 4 babies left who are due in October for whom I wish to knit. Basically, I've made none.

Still waiting

Sadly, I have no photos to post, as I have no socks. I was told they were sent out in September, but have not arrived. An email to my pal about this went unanswered. Pal, if you are out there and sent my socks, please try to trace them, even at this late date. I would hate to think you did all that work for nothing.

Savior Socks Sent

Finished the socks for my "bonus" sock pal and sent them off with a little bottle of wool wash last week. She should probably get them today. I wish I could have finished them earlier, but then again, it is too hot for wool socks right now in our part of the country so she couldn't have worn them anyway. I sent her a little "just because" package so she would have something while I knit since she didn't get socks from her first pal.

This is Yarn Pirate club yarn in Calamity and the Inside-Out pattern from the STR club. (Am I a sock club joiner - you bet!)

Savior Socks Away!

Here a really bad picture of the start of the socks for my "bonus" pal. The yarn is Yarn Pirate in the club color "calamity" and this is the first time I've worked with it. It is really soft and the colors are amazing in real life - purple, green, turquoise and cream. I love the way it stripes with the purple and turquoise together and the green and cream together. It is a good thing I'm posting this picture saying they were for a pal or I'd be tempted to keep them for myself! I wanted to do extra nice socks for this pal since her first pal didn't come through. These are going to be "inside out" socks from the BMFA sock club pattern, although I might modify the pattern on the leg. I love the way these socks are fitted and the garter stitch toe and heel!

I almost didn't post this for fear of giving away the "surprise". I'm afraid my pal may figure out these are her socks since there are so many fewer people knitting now. Maybe she'll figure this out and not look on the pligg if she wants to be surprised?

Socks Received (and happily worn!)

My socks arrived in mid-August... just before I went on vacation. So I threw them into my suitcase and headed out. They are wonderful! My sock pal did a great job. They're a cable/lace pattern that I probably wouldn't have chosen for myself, but now that I've worn them, I might do some more like them! I've never been a lace sock wearer... but I think these have changed my mind.

She also sent a great project bag (in use for a new sock project) and a bag of wonderful chocolate (long gone!).

I found Carissa's blog and she mentioned some concerns with the pooling/striping... Not a concern to me - I think the pattern is busy enough that it's less noticeable.

So thank you Carissa over at Chrysalis Knits!

Sockapalooza 4 Socks from Across the Pond in Somerset

My Sockapalooza Pal Mary did a great job knitting me these socks. They are knit from Koigu KPPM in a pretty lavender/grey mix. She also sent me some beautiful Collinette Jitterbug sock yarn in my favorite shades of turquoise and purple. Along with the fibery goodness is a box of Clotted Cream Fudge from Somerset UK, a postcard showing the beautiful countryside and a lovely note. Well worth the wait.

LOVE my new socks!

These arrived last week, but I'm behind in posting. :)

Thanks, Nicole, I love them! And they fit wonderfully, too. :)

More pics and details on my blog.

just when i'd given up

my socks arrived! they're so wonderful, in all their monkey-fit-fit-me-like-a-glove goodness. i wasn't sure about trying the monkey pattern, but then i got these and they're rather beautiful. thanks Martha!

the same day these came, i got and email from my sock pal, who hadn't received hers yet. they were onlygoing one state over, and i have sent them uh....three weeks prior, so i flipped and cast on another pair for her

Have a look of how lucky I am

I have received my wonders, in form of socks of sockpalooza. You can judge yourselves if they are or not wonders, And you cannot count on the impressive trick of the tact! My God! they are extremely smooth!

I looove the hole package, the socks done in koigu color pine, and the ball of yarn of trekking xxl in precious and very inspiring combination of colors that seem to shout to me to jaywalker! but I do not know if with these longer-than-life legs of mine would have to dare to me with that one pattern that seems to give so little elasticity…
One of the reasons to make interchanges is to know weavers, or simply crazy (by handmade, to be understand), of all parts and “to extend circles” either, because I have had the luck of which it surprises to me, so pleasingly The Comfy Bev, Bev is an enthusiastic one of the interchanges, as we can read in his blog, and an untiring and perfectionist weaver I have proofs of it! And you can have a look to the finished objects in her galleries of photos.
I want to take advantage of, also, to request excuses to him to Bev, my stupid mood has caused that does not answer to you before, to neither sends to a message nor nothing you, because there am been a little sad these days, excuses, again, or I have prevailed a change of rate and nothing to leave things for morning, mainly if me they make happy so and so.

Thank you very much Bev, is a pleasure to meet you

(Edited: I'm so kind of dissaster tht I haven't published this one when I wrote it... just don't answer, In my own blog it's posted weeks ago...)

Presents from Kathy

Arrived home Friday (8/24) after a full evening of preparation for a weekend soccer tournament to find a package waiting for me! As I am on a strict yarn diet I knew I had not ordered anything. I tore open the package and inside I found a wonderful little gift. My pal, Kathy gave the sock a valiant effort and an effort I truly appreciate. She did a wonderful job with her start but those short row heals threw her for a loop. I love both the yarn that she worked with and the yarn she gifted - my older daughter has already tagged it for herself.

Thanks, Kathy for the wonderful gifts and heroic effort...

ETA: Thought this had posted last week...yes call me Dork.

Thank you dear sockpal!

I recived my socks from my secret sock pal today, thank you Rachel!!!

They are so beautiful, nice knitted and a lovely colour (I love green). I think that I will try to knitt this pattern my self. Thank you for all the goddies you sent me, there will be fighting in our family now, my two boys have already asked me several times if they can have the Kettle chips or the shewing gum.

This was my first sockapalooza and I cannot wait for the next one. As a beginner, this blog has given me so many links to other blogs and I have a long list of bloggers that I read continously. Thanks to all of you, but most to Rachel!!!

slow to post

I have been a bad Sockpal. My socks arrived on August 4th and I have yet to post about them. Emma at Stitch'n Sue did an amazing job with the color and the pattern. They are waving lace and I can't remember the yarn but it is absolutely wonderful and I love the colors. I love the additional yarn she sent me from East Wind Farms. I took photos right away of the socks, but did so on my (now, as of Aug 14th) MIL's camera and then had trouble getting the photos from them. Throw in a very secret elopement for my husband and I this past week and a brief honeymoon and you get one very neglectful sock pal!

Emma, thank you so much for my wonderful socks. Your knitting is amazing and every stitch so perfect. I feel so lucky to have received your socks. I am currently working out what pattern I want to use for the East Winds Farms yarn. I am tossing around a few ideas and have yet to make a decision. I love the colors and how the yarn feels. So soft.

Thank you again for making my first sockapalooza experience a great one!

I have a great Pal!

Today I went to check the mail, and lo and behold, there was a package for me from Anne (Natural Fibres) in Yellowknife, North West Territories. She is a sweet thoughtful woman who sent a totally wonderful package (more on my blog).

My socks are gorgeous ... knit in a beautiful turquoise Opal Uni Solid sock yarn (Colour #29), Anne said they were her first attempt at Lace knitting but I think she might be fibbing -- she has done a gorgeous job knitting Hedera (by Cookie A).

My socks are so soft, and the colour is so pretty ... and to top it off, they fit me to a T.
I will try to get a better picture (taken by someone other than me!) later or tomorrow -- they are gorgeous and I want to show them off, and can't seem to get a good angle while they are attached to me -- I am not bendy enough!)

Thank you so much Anne for the very thoughtful package! I love it all , and really do appreciate everything!
